Jar Island

Tucked within Vansittart Bay, Jar Island is a place where art, landscape, and history meet. Among its sandstone overhangs and sheltered coves are ancient Gwion Gwion (Bradshaw) rock paintings, some of the most finely detailed and mysterious artworks in Australia.

The island itself is small and rugged, fringed by mangroves and tidal flats that come alive with birdlife and the rhythmic rise and fall of the sea. Standing here, surrounded by timeless art and the hum of nature, visitors often feel an extraordinary sense of connection.
